Crystal D’Angora

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist; Somatic, EMDR & Mindfulness Trauma Therapist

About Me:

My work as a trauma therapist hinges on my experiential faith in the healing capacity of an integrated body and mind. The prevalence of alcoholism and poverty in my family led me to experience a great deal of anxiety as a child, but I was lucky enough to be exposed to creativity as a means of expression and healing from an early age. Dance, writing, and theater helped me through some of my most trying traumatic experiences. The arts paved my way to finding other movement-based modalities such as yoga, pranayama meditation, and Pilates to continue my personal healing, integration, and self-discovery.

My work with clients is rooted in several years of experience as a hatha and kundalini yoga and meditation practitioner and instructor, a passion for social justice, and reverence for the Spirit of nature and Eastern philosophies.  I am committed to guiding clients toward lifestyle choices that promote joy and resilience, and I strive to create balance my life as a yoga teacher, wife, mother, and trauma therapist by utilizing these tools personally as well.

My Approach to Wellness:

My therapeutic approach is grounded in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, which can help clients with specific, targeted needs, focus on trauma resolution and achieve therapeutic progress in a time-efficient manner.  I utilize Somatics, EMDR, and mindfulness based psychotherapy to facilitate relief from the emotional distress associated with disturbing life experiences.

These tools help clients process trauma, reduce distress, and achieve their goals effectively within a structured and compassion-based framework.  I support individuals and couples in healing trauma, developing coping skills and building resilience, gaining deeper self-awareness—understanding their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors more clearly, and learning and applying practical ways to regulate intense emotions, such as anger, sadness, or fear.  This could involve learning communication skills, boundary-setting, breathing and meditation techniques, or resolving conflicts in healthier ways.  Meeting these goals in therapy can lead clients to improved relationships and engage in positive behavior change generally.

Services & Specialties/What Clients Can Expect:

Individual therapy sessions will be a collaborative tailored treatment program specific to your needs and goals.  In our therapy sessions, you will gain enhanced coping skills (individual talk therapy, Somatic Experiencing, breath and mindfulness practices, and EMDR) for challenging work and relationship situations, improved clarity about future goals, reduced negative self-talk, and practical tools to support you in letting go of your past family and relationship trauma.  One of the most important aspects of individual therapy is building healthy self-care routines and habits that will help you self-soothe and self-regulate when you are in distress.

Fun Fact About Me:

I love to dance and sing and frequently have family “jam sessions” with my husband and son where they play instruments and I sing and dance.
